So when the last 2 verses of surah Baqarah were revealed, Allah gave an explanation so that the sahaba would not be worried anymore. He waited for revelation from Allah to come down first. So they asked prophet Muhammed SAW regarding this but he SAW didn’t say anything. When the verse before was revealed (verse 284), the sahaba thought that they will also be taken to account on thoughts and they became worried.
